Overview

An overview of the inputs, modelling and outputs, specific to the NEM implementation of our forecast

Our NEM forecast is a 5-minute granularity, substate zonal model up to 2050. The forecast models prices and revenues at a 5-minute settlement period level, which we aggregate up to monthly and yearly revenues in 2024 Australian dollars in the final output revenue files.

Substate-level modelling

To reflect regional dynamics within the NEM, we model at the substate level and consider transmission limits between substates. We divide the five NEM states into nine distinct regions:

  • North, Central, and South Queensland
  • North, Central, and South New South Wales
  • Victoria
  • South Australia
  • Tasmania

These regions are based on the 2024 ISP Subregions shown below, where we have combined some regions into the same substate in our model.

  • Central Queensland and Gladstone Grid are combined into our 'Central Queensland' substate.
  • Central New South Wales and Sydney, Newcastle & Wollongong are combined into our 'Central New South Wales' substate.
  • Central South Australia and South East South Australia are combined into our 'South Australia' substate.
